So many people have anxiety, whether it may be mild to severe, everyone goes through it at some point in their life. Having said that, I myself suffer with anxiety and seasonal depression. I am not saying this because I need pity or remorse, but because I want to shed some light on the topic and offer some exercises that I have used when I begin to feel anxious and need to lift my spirits up.
Yoga by far has been a life saviour for me, not just the asanas, as that does help calm my mind before meditation, but with Pranayama (breathing exercises). Below is a breathing exercise to try out, keep in mind EVERYONE is different, and some things my work better depending on the person. I always remind my students in class to listen to their bodies, and just go with the flow. If you need to tone down an exercise or tone it up, by all means - go for it (So in other words if you can't hold your breath for 7 seconds at first, start with 1 - baby steps peeps! You know yourself the best.
Check out 'Alternate Nostril Breathing' this one I absolutely love, and as a bonus gets the left and right side of your body more in sync.
